Our hospital serves a 65,000 square mile area that includes 33 counties and six million residents across northern and central California. This is a 625 bed acute care teaching hospital this year. U. Our thoracic surgical team consists of section head dr David Cook dr luis Godoy and me as well as to physician assistants, john Ancona and Sarah Holmes and a nurse coordinator, patient Navigator Valerie cooter. We look forward to introducing you to our team and letting me see where we take care of our patients. We see our patients here at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. Our center is one of two such centers in northern California that has earned the National cancer Institute's comprehensive designation. UC. Davis is one of only 49 cancer centers in the U. S. To have earned the status indicating that it meets strict criteria and lab clinical and population based research professional and public education and dissemination of advances to the patients we serve furthermore. The UC Davis Comprehensive cancer center is accredited by the american College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. We have an american college of radiology designated lung cancer screening center. And our lung cancer screening program is recognized as a screening center of excellence by the Go Two Foundation. We recently began our telehealth program and we now evaluate approximately 40% of our patients by video visit. This is convenient for our patients as one third of our lung cancer patients live at least 50 miles away. We have an operating room available 24 7365 for emergency thoracic surgical operations. We have a dedicated cardiothoracic anesthesia team as well as ct surgery nurses. We currently have three full days of block time per week for our section of general thoracic surgery and access to the Da Vinci xie robotic platform. This is our cardiac and thoracic ICU conveniently located directly across from the operating room. It is a 10 bed unit for both cardiac and thoracic surgical patients are subject to me and Newman ectomy patients and any other thoracic surgical patient requiring ICU level of care are taken care of on this unit. Primary management of our patients is by our thoracic surgical team and we are assisted by our pulmonary medicine intensive as colleagues who provide 24 7 365 attending level in hospital coverage of this unit. We work as a collaborative team to care for our thoracic surgical patients. This is our cardio thoracic progressive care unit, a 24 bed unit for patients recovering from cardiac and thoracic surgery. The nurses on this unit are specifically trained in the care and management of thoracic surgical patients. They are familiar with our postoperative pathways, including those for a sausage ectomy, lumpectomy, pain management and pulmonary hygiene and the importance of early mobilization. Our patients may be monitored and continuous telemetry and pulse oximetry. Hello, I'm luis Godoy and I'm an assistant professor and thoracic surgeon here at UC Davis Health. I also hold an appointment as a thoracic surgeon at the Sacramento Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mazar. After completing my cardio thoracic surgery residency training here at UC Davis. I joined the thoracic surgery team. My goal is to provide the best possible care to each of my patients regardless of background or circumstance by providing high quality comprehensive thoracic surgical care that is not only evidence based but also patients center. I also serve as the director of diversity and inclusion for the department of surgery and as the assistant program. Director of the cardio thoracic surgery residency training program. Hi, I'm Aubrey, our cardiothoracic anesthesiologist and director of cardiothoracic anesthesiology here at UC Davis health in sacramento California. Our section consists of eight anesthesiologists, all of whom have completed specialized training in cardiothoracic anesthesiology and are certified in advanced peri operative trans esophageal echocardiography by the national board of echocardiography. Our team provides 24 7 coverage for all the rustic surgical patients. Hello, my name is Kevin Floyd. I am the nurse manager of the cardiac and thoracic intensive care unit at U. C. Davis Medical Center. Are specialized unit has 10 beds with the majority of the patients being nurse ratios of 1 to 1 or some 2 to 1 of the nurses on our unit are specially trained in the care of patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgery. All patients undergoing the soft objectives and high risk are critically thoracic surgical patients are cared for in our ICU. Furthermore, our unit is the extracorporeal life support ICU and many of our nurses are trained to manage the cl circuit. More than half of our nurses have achieved critical care registered nurse certification by the American Association of Care nurses and Fuel have dual certifications such as cardiac surgery and certification. Hi I'm john in kona I'm a physician assistant in thoracic surgery team. My role on this team is wide ranging. I spent most of my time working directly with our thoracic surgical patients. Both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Our team has a set of postoperative care pathways that I'd help implement and establish. I work closely with the nurses and other members of our multi piston malaria impatient team to ensure that our patients are getting the care they need and to facilitate their transitions of care building trust and report with patients and their families is a priority of mine. I'm Valerie Cooter and I have several key roles on the thoracic surgical team. First and foremost I'm the nurse navigator and patient coordinator for all of our outpatients. I ensure that the patients are prepared for surgery and I'm readily available to answer their questions and coordinate their care. I also serve as the general thoracic surgery program Manager in which I manage and coordinate the administrative functions of the program. Lastly I'm the clinical data abstract er In this role I abstract data from the electronic health record and enter it into the society of thoracic surgeons. General thoracic surgery database, a national clinical data registry that offers risk adjusted benchmarking reports on outcomes specific to our patients. Importantly we use this data for continuous quality improvement. Hello my name is Barbara Governor, Nurse manager of the cardio thoracic progressive care unit here at UC Davis Medical Center, a magnet recognized hospital. Our specialized unit has 24 beds with the patient nurse ratio of 3 to 1. Our patients on our unit are closely monitored using telemetry and continuous pulse oximetry. The nurses on our unit are specifically trained in the care of patients undergoing thoracic surgery including chest tube management, pain control and early recognition of signs and symptoms of post operative Complications. Furthermore over 1/3 of our nurses have achieved progressive care nursing certification by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Mhm
